Millburn Township Receives State Funding to Build Two New Pumps

MILLBURN — The State of New Jersey is giving Millburn $500,000 in direct state appropriations as part of the New Jersey Fiscal Year 2026 state budget. According to Mayor Annette Romano, “This funding will support the Gilbert Place stormwater pump station project. This project will expand the station’s capacity, improve the reliability of its electrical systems, provide backup power and pump redundancy.“

She also mentioned the upgraded pump station will improve pre-storm flood mitigation and post-storm recovery in the area and improve public safety and welfare during heavy rain events.

“This funding from the state reflects cooperation and a strong partnership with our state legislators to invest in community infrastructure projects after expected federal funding for the project was paused earlier this year,” said Romano. “I made it my top priority to ensure the necessary repairs to the Gilbert Place pump station could move forward.”

She noted that the flood mitigation advisory committee and the township committee have been working diligently to continue to invest in important infrastructure projects that will lead to a more resilient community.

Romano expressed her appreciation to Senator John McKeon, Assemblywoman Alix Collazos-Gill and Assemblywoman Rosy Bagolie for recognizing and sharing in the township’s commitment to improve critical infrastructure for Millburn residents, especially downtown merchants and our South Mountain and Washington School neighborhoods.

“A special thank you to Senator McKeon, who led the charge in the State Senate and emphasized the need for state leadership when federal resources fell short”, added Mayor Romano.

Construction is expected to begin in early 2026.
